10 — Òut du Saótru
(The bend of the grasshoppers)
“Saótru” in the Airolese dialect means grasshopper and in a figurative sense indicates a restless thin person. The downhill racers of the Gotthard Derby may have appeared as grasshoppers when nervously reached Saótru. From there they plunged downhill into Airolo. This ski competition was a meeting opportunity for the people of Andermatt and Airolo. The race was disputed in March and took place from 1912 to the Second World War.
